Samoa Joe Career

At the age of five, Samoa Joe made his stage debut at the 1984 Summer Olympics, where Joe went on to win the California State Junior Judo Championship. 

Professional wrestling

Samoa Joe debuted in professional wrestling in 2000 after signing with Ultimate Pro Wrestling. He first feuded with John Cena before becoming the youngest UPW Heavyweight Champion. 

After that, Samoa traveled to Japan to compete in the Pro Wrestling Zero-One promotion. He competed in several competitions, eventually becoming the inaugural NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Champions.

The East Coast-based (ROH) Ring of Honor promotion signed Joe in 2002, and he debuted at the “Glory by Honor” pay-per-view in 2003. As soon as he advanced through the ranks, he defeated Xavier to become ROH Champion. 

A few weeks later, Joe defeated his on-screen protégé Jay Lethal to become the promotion’s fifth Pure Champion.

Joe signed with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in 2005, and five days later, he made his official debut at the Slammiversary pay-per-view, winning a match against Sonjay Dutt.

Later, he won the tournament by defeating A.J. Styles in the first TNA match to receive a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer. Joe later won the TNA World Tag Team Championship and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

Joe acquired a contract with WWE in 2015 and competed in the NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable event.

After defeating Fin Balor, he won the NXT Championship a few months later. Jao also had a feud with Shinsuke Nakamura, with whom he wrestled several times.

Samoa Joe made his official main roster debut as a member of the Raw brand in 2017. He defeated Roman Reigns in his first match after a diversion by Braun Strowman.
