At the age of five, Samoa Joe made his stage debut at the 1984 Summer Olympics, where Joe went on to win the California State Junior Judo Championship.
Professional wrestling
Samoa Joe debuted in professional wrestling in 2000 after signing with Ultimate Pro Wrestling. He first feuded with John Cena before becoming the youngest UPW Heavyweight Champion.
After that, Samoa traveled to Japan to compete in the Pro Wrestling Zero-One promotion. He competed in several competitions, eventually becoming the inaugural NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Champions.
