Sutter played defensive back for the Colorado Buffaloes in college. The Baltimore Ravens selected him in the fifth round of the 1998 NFL Draft; he was released at the end of the 1998 training camp.
He signed with the Carolina Panthers a few days later, but he didn’t make the active roster until November 28, 1998.
Ryan Allen injured his shoulder while making a tackle against the New York Jets on the first play of his NFL debut.
He was placed on injured reserve right away and eventually released. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks the following summer but was released.
