Particularly, Allen engaged largely with secondary students while pursuing a master’s degree in kinesiology at Texas A&M College of Education from 1996 to 1999. Later, in 1998, he earned his bachelor’s degree. Subsequently, Allen served as the secondary coach at Tulsa from 2000 to 2001.

Allen worked as a defensive quality control coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 2002 to 2003, then as a defensive assistant from 2004 to 2005. Then, Allen next went to the New Orleans Saints, where he worked as a defensive line coach from 2006 to 2007, and then as a secondary coach from 2008 to 2010.
