Recent controversies
Auburn’s new head football coach, Bryan Harsin, may be fired less than a year after signing a six-year, $31.5 million deal.
Harsin’s first season with the Plains ended with a 6-7 record, including a five-game losing streak at the finish. Since then, the former Boise State and Arkansas State coach has replaced offensive coordinator Mike Bobo with Austin Davis, who was sacked two weeks later. Derek Mason, Harsin’s defensive coordinator, left to take the same position at Oklahoma State University for $400,000 less.
In addition to the coaching changes, Harsin has seen a number of players leave the school, some of whom have expressed dissatisfaction with the coach and the way he handles his team. If Auburn decides to part ways with Harsin owing to a lack of proof of a valid basis to fire him for cause, it will be accountable for a $18 million buyout.
